Lee's Flying High

A 17 year old Tollbar student is marching his way to the top with the hope of becoming a pilot in the RAF.

Lee Everton from Waltham, a sergeant in Grimsby Air Cadets 195 Squadron, recently completed the 92nd 100 mile marches in Nijmegen, Holland.

He will begin training next month for the 93rd four day Dutch tradition, which saw thousands of spectators line the streets to cheer the participators on.

"Being in the air cadets has given me opportunities I never dreamed of," he said.

"Ever since going to the Waddington Air Show when I was younger I've wanted to be in the RAF, this time next year I am going to apply. The training sessions for the marches were incredibly gruelling and not many of us applied, it was hard work but worth it. The best advice I was given was to 'look your best when others are at their worst', I definitely kept that in mind while I was away. It was a lot of fun and amazingly rewarding and the best part was crossing the finishing line, the Dutch went mad for the English, it was such an amazing feeling."

Lee's family have always supported his dream of being in the RAF and his grandma Neta said: "We are all extremely proud of Lee and what he has achieved."

More that 30,000 people took part in the 2008 marches.
