Frequently Asked Questions

Why take such a big risk in replacing A-Levels with the IB?

We believe that the International Baccalaureate is the best education we can offer you in the future.

What makes the IB a better option than A Levels?

Both universities and employers are increasingly concerned that we are creating people who can pass exams, but do little else, The A Level exam load is currently such that taking three subjects plus General Studies at A2 level, with another subject at As requires 27 exams in two years. This is seriously diminishing teaching time. The IB offers a unique and highly-rated qualification. You will spend less time doing exams and more time making progress in your studies. It prepares you for academic life in higher education by encouraging independent learning and equips you with the skills for the world of work.

Will IB get me into university?

Yes. All universities in the UK and overseas accept the International Baccalaureate.

Will IB be accepted by employers?

Yes. Employers are increasingly backing the IB as a step in the right direction, having complained that many students can pass exams but do not have a rounded view of the skills required in the workplace.

How much individual choice is there with IBD study?

All current subjects studied at A Level are available at IB, except Law. This is because the IB is classed as an international qualification, and law differs within each country. Sports Science is currently being trialled and will also be available soon.

How is the IB achieved?

Six subjects in all – three at Standard Level and three at Higher Level.
