Facilities

You will find Tollbar BEC Sixth Form campus is completely independent from the main school areas and offers you superb facilities. The campus consists of 19 designated classrooms, the majority of which contain an interactive white board. With the expansion of the sixth from we have also three fully equipped Science laboratories and there are plans to add a further 8 classrooms later this year.

ICT facilities within the classrooms and study area have been upgraded with the installation of 120 high specification computers.

Specialist Facilities Include:

• Three fully-equipped science labs with data-logging facilities
• A fully-equipped computer room for ICT
• Computer-based listening facilities for languages to complement the two Divace Language labs
• High-specification sewing machines with computer-aided design facilities for textiles and CADCAM facilities, together with a laser-cutting machine for resistant materials technology
• A newly-refurbished and equipped photography suite with darkroom and high-specification colour printer and a large, purpose-built Art studio equipped with a specialist projector.
• A state-of-the-art gymnasium
• Conference-style accommodation for business studies.

The Study Area and Library

As well as classrooms equipped with computers, the study area currently contains 20 additional networked computers specifically for your use, so that you can carry out independent research, prepare presentations and complete coursework.

You are also welcome to use the fully-stocked library service at Grimsby Institute.

The Institute has three libraries, supporting FE, HE and Art courses, and offers books,  periodicals and newspapers – paper and electronic, videos/DVDs, internet access, online subscription databases, printers and photocopiers.

During term time the libraries are open from 8.45am-4.00pm. The HE Library is also open 9am-12pm on Saturday mornings during term-time.

Café Express and Common Room

Due to popular demand the Café Express has recently doubled in size and has been refurbished to provide a comfortable area in which to eat and relax.

Adjoining the cafe is the sixth form lounge, which has a large, wall-mounted plasma screen and CD player, plus a pool table, football table, and vending machines for snacks and drinks. You can also use the lounge as a comfortable place to discuss homework assignments between lessons.
